What is washi tape?
Share
You may have seen those colourful rolls of stationery goodness in a shop or even received a package decorated with funky tape, but what actually is washi tape?
The washi tape many of us use today originated from the Japanese paper called 'washi'. This was a handmade paper made from natural fibres such as bamboo and rice plants, which gives a unique matt texture. This was combined with a natural rubber adhesive to create the low tack, tearable decorative washi tape that we know and love today.
What can washi tape be used for?
Scrapbooking
With a low adhesive, washi tape is perfect to use with paper as it can easily be removed and adjusted. From whimsical to highly decorative to bold designs, it's easy to see why washi tape is so popular to use in scrapbooking.
